It first flew in July 1929 with 25 passengers on board when it is the largest flying machine in the world with a wingspan of 48 m, a length of 40 m and a gross vehicle weight of over 50 tonnes.
It is then propelled by twelve engines of 525 hp Siemens Jupiter, it will later Curtiss Conqueror engines of 610 hp allowing it to reach 215km / h.
On 21 October 1929, he set a record with a flight with 159 passengers and ten crew members on board.
In November 1930, he flew to a great journey to the Americas by the South Atlantic.
After many difficulties, he joined New York in August 1931, secured by financial difficulties and leaves in May 1932 and joined the Lake Constance in November 1933.
